Skills Based Curriculum: The 5 Cs
At the Dream Academy, we give preference to the development of skills over the mastery of content. Mastery of content still takes place, but it is structured in order to build upon what the school has labeled as the "5 Cs" :
- Critical Thinking : the ability for students to both deconstruct a complex process into understandable parts, as well as synthesize basic ideas into more complex ones.
- Communication : the ability for students to be effective communicators in the three formats of written, spoken, and visual communication, where visual literacy includes both still and moving images.
- Creativity : the ability for students to use pattern recognition, pattern adaptation, and a spirit of experimentation to produce solutions and products that have unique characteristics.
- Collaboration : the ability for students to work effectively with others, by learning rules of communication, and by fulfilling a variety of assigned roles.
- Christ Centered : this "C" is the lens through which all of Dream Academy's curriculum is developed. It is based on a Christian World View, which is defined in more detail in our school's philosophical documentation.
